To advance sustainable development, the construction industry must adopt Net-Zero Project Management (NZPM). This study identifies project managers' critical roles and competencies, such as net-zero carbon planning, risk management, and procurement. It also develops a maturity model to help PMs assess and improve their NZPM skills across three competency levels.

Infrastructure delivery is increasingly judged not only by what gets built, but by the societal value it generates along the way — yet how that value is actually governed, rather than simply promised, remains poorly understood. This study examines the governance practices that enable infrastructure projects to create and sustain social value, treating governance not as a static set of controls but as an active, relational practice through which purpose is defined and carried through the life of a project.

This presentation examines the drivers for ESG adoption in Australian infrastructure, such as regulatory requirements and financial incentives, while also highlighting key barriers like cost implications and the challenge of balancing short-term costs with long-term benefits.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused construction shutdowns, supply chain disruptions, and the adoption of remote management in the AEC sector. These unprecedented changes introduced new psychosocial risks to the mental health of project management (PM) practitioners. This research investigates pandemic-associated risk factors, assesses PM stress levels, evaluates organizational interventions, and establishes a psychosocial risk management framework.

2021 Research Grant winner: This presentation focuses on how social media can provide an opportunity to evaluate benefits and public values qualitatively. In particular, two questions are addressed: How will social media data help us to take into account and monitor public value creation and benefits realization in infrastructure projects? And what are the barriers and opportunities for using social media data in project management?
